Life As We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer

Miranda's skepticism changes to utter fear when a stray meteor knocks the moon closer to Earth. How are you supposed to prepare for this kind of disaster? Tsunamis have wiped out all of the coast, earthquakes can be felt in Kansas, and the amount of volcanic ash in the air is so great that it blocks out the sun.

Miranda, her mom, and her two brothers all retreat to one room in the Arctic winter to preserve warmth and strength. When Miranda slowly reaches the end of the food supply she knows the end is near. She just about lost all hope that she will survive this catastrophe.
